Pictures of Ann Arbor, Michigan

Sept. 28, 2009

Ann Arbor might well be the best place to live in Lower Michigan -- depending on your interests and lifestyle, of course. It is a university town (the highly acclaimed University of Michigan) and thus a center of intellectual life, culture, and scientific research (see Wikipedia article). It is compact and may be easily traveled by bicycle, as many residents do. The size is moderate -- not too big and not too small. It has nice old buildings and large trees. It is a fairly health-conscious place, and you will see people many jogging and doing sports. It is also home to a beautiful arboretum with many footpaths. There are buses to the Detroit airport and metropolitan area. This is one of those rare places in the U.S. where you can lead a full life without owning a car. Yes, I am betraying my personal values.

A very nice setting for university students.

The University of MI boasts very modern facilities. Unfortunately, their air conditioning systems are ridiculously noisy.
