Pictures of Tahquamenon Falls, Michigan

Oct. 23, 2009

Tahquamenon Falls State Park is located on the northeast tip of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It includes two dramatic waterfalls on the Tahquamenon River and a network of scenic hiking trails. Kim and I visited at the peak of fall colors on October 16 and enjoyed hiking for a few hours in the park. Trail maps can be obtained at park offices, and a nice loop hike can easily be put together.

Water drops 50 feet.

The brownish color is from tannins in the water from cedar swamps upstream.

The North Country Trail is a long-distance trail across the northern border of the U.S. It passes through the park.

Fall colors on the trail.

The trail is wide and just a bit muddy.

Some old trees have been preserved, such as this big white pine.
